The Steelers rolled in to Altrincham on Wednesday evening on the back of a four point weekend having faced the Flyers home and away.

The Storm also had a good weekend picking up maximum points against the Stars and the Glasgow Clan. It was the Steelers who opened the scoring, within the first five minutes, when Graham fumbled the puck past Brodeur after a pile up around the goal crease.

The Storm responded with some strong fore-cheking hockey and created some good scoring opportunities, but couldn’t quite convert. No further scoring occurred in a largely uneventful period, which ended in the visiting team’s favour. A back and forth opening to the period was interrupted when the Storm equalised through Johnson, after Critchlow’s accurate pass from behind the net found the forward with time and space in-front.

The Steelers came close to regaining the lead on the powerplay only to be thwarted several times by some nice saves by Brodeur. It was the Storm who got the go ahead goal however when Critchlow converted after a nice passing play by the three forwards which sent Greenfield the wrong way – Carter and Johnson picking up the assists.

The score remained the same heading in to the second period break with the Storm up by one. It took just two minutes for the Storm to extend their lead at the start of the third when Johnson broke away down the wing and slotted the puck home low down on Greenfield.

An unassisted effort by the Canadian forward. The Steelers pressed hard at this point to try and change the momentum but failed to break down the Storm’s defence. The visitors pulled their netminder with only a couple of minutes remaining looking for a way back into the game, but to no avail as the Storm held on and took another two important points heading in to the business end of the season.
