Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm are thrilled to welcome, Mathieu Gagnon to the club for the 2019/20 season!

The Canadian defenceman is the latest signee for the Storm, and is set to return to the EIHL after spending last season icing for HDD Jesenice (alpsHL).

The tough defenceman first made his EIHL debut in 2017/18 with the Nottingham Panthers. He quickly became a league favourite amongst EIHL fans, also taking part in the CHL with Panthers.

Prior to his EIHL debut, Gagnon iced with ECHL team Brampton Beast, alongside Chris Auger and past Storm player, Mike Folkes. During the 2016/17 season, Gagnon claimed 15 points, including 11 assists. Following his time in the EIHL, the d-man returned to the Beast for the majority of the 2018/19 season, prior to heading to Slovenia.

Gagnon also has AHL experience under his belt, playing 27 games in total for Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Springfield Falcons.

Team history for the 6’2” blueliner include: Shawinigan Cataractes, Stockton Thunder and Tulsa Oilers. During his time with junior team, Whitecourt Wolverines, Gagnon was given the role of Alternate Captain.

Gagnon is a physical defenceman, who is versatile in his role, also playing forward when required. Named as the fifth newcomer to the Storm, and the tenth signing so far, expect big things from him.

Head Coach, Ryan Finnerty commented:

“Gagz is a player we felt we needed in Manchester. Alongside the toughness side, he brings an impressive amount of experience to our blue line.

“I want my players to play heavy, and having guys like this on the roster gives us the ability to do that.

“ I am looking forward to welcoming a player that has been a fan favourite wherever he’s played, and I’m sure this season will be no different for him.”
