The final preseason friendly saw the Storm come out on-top in an exciting match against Coventry Blaze.

A dominant first period display from the Storm saw them eventually take the lead through Scott Simmonds, in the 18th minute. The forward seized on a defensive error to drive down the heart of the Blaze before neatly lifting the puck over Hedley’s blocker side.

The hosts that doubled their advantage through a laser finish from MacLeod, who ripped a wristshot into the top shelf. Helpers going to Simmonds and VanWormer showed the trios early effectiveness.

A change in goaltender and lapse in the defence cost the Storm, as Bloodoff found the back of the net in the 27th minute for Blaze. A poor change on the penalty kill proved costly and erased the Storm’s lead, as Ferrera brought the Blaze to parity in the 37th minute.

The visitors took their first lead of the game through Broll, whose low shot snuck beyond Downie. Although, their one-goal advantage lasted only minutes as a bobbling picked landed on the stick of Brady – who made no mistake.

Moments later the Storm were ahead again, as Fawcett converted an excellent cross-ice feed from Hamilton. An unstoppable bottle popping snip from Ferrera in the 56th minute dragged the Blaze back level at 4-4. Until a shot through traffic from MacLeod, on the powerplay, proved decisive in the 57th minute – with the hosts well worthy of their first home win.

Overall, a view promising display with line combinations and defensive pairing appearing to find their feet and timing.
