Manchester Storm Bolster Depth Down The Middle As Second Centre Signs Up For 20/21 Elite League Season!

Your Goodwin Group Manchester Storm are delighted to announce their third signing of the 20/21 Elite League season, returnee, Scott Simmonds!

The Canadian forward made a huge impact both on and off the ice in his first professional year which deservedly saw him recognised as a fan favourite.

In his first season in the EIHL, Simmonds was able to amass 22 points in 48 games, including 12 goals. The University of Guelph alumni often shared the ice with Cody Thompson as part of a tenacious third-line for the 2019/20 campaign but Simmonds can expect his role to develop this coming season.

Prior to his first professional year, the Ontario born forward recently completed five seasons in the USports league during that period, the 26-year old totalled an impressive 95 points, including 60 assists. By the end of the 2018/19 season Simmonds was the leading scorer and was the first pick for the OUA West All-Star Team. The accolades whilst at university extend beyond this selection, as Simmonds was part of the Canadian University squad which secured bronze in at the 2016-17 Universiade event.

Head Coach, Ryan Finnerty, was extremely pleased to have secured the services of Scott Simmonds for the year ahead: “I truly believe Scott is one of the best two-way players in this league. I know he had offers from elsewhere on the continent but I am delighted to have been able to bring him back to Manchester and work with him again.

“He is an easy person to coach, the fans enjoy his style, he loves the city and the versatility he brings to the line-up is unrivalled. I am happy with how things are shaping up so far this off-season and most importantly I hope all our fans are keeping safe!”
