Storm Secure Star Goaltender Drew DeRidder on Two-Year Deal After Award-Winning Season

Manchester Storm are thrilled to confirm the return of All-Star import netminder Drew DeRidder on a two-year deal.

The highly decorated DeRidder was a standout performer at the Shelter last season, and he will remain between the pipes for the Storm for at least the next two EIHL campaigns at the AO Arena.

In 34 games, DeRidder posted an outstanding 2.28 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage, earning EIHL Netminder of the Year honours, a place in the First All-Star Team, and the Best Save Percentage award, while backstopping the franchise to its first play-off weekend.

At club level, DeRidder was named both Coach’s Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year, as well as receiving the Fan Favourite award, further underlining his impact on the side. Naturally, competition for his signature was intense across the league, and the Storm are delighted that the strong rapport between DeRidder and everyone associated with the club proved key in securing this multi-year deal.

Last season, DeRidder arrived as a highly regarded addition to the franchise, and a series of highlight-reel saves early in his EIHL campaign quickly demonstrated the quality of that recruitment.

In recent years, the Storm have developed a strong core of returning players, and DeRidder spoke of his enthusiasm about being part of that group going forward:

” I am thrilled to be resigning with the Storm. I loved every minute of this past season, we had a great group and a year I’ll always appreciate. I’m really excited to be back and build on what we started. The move downtown to the AO Arena makes it even more special. I can’t wait to get going in front of the fans again next season and be a part of the growth of hockey in Manchester.”

Head Coach Cameron Critchlow described the signing as a statement of intent for the year ahead:

“Drew is in the conversation as one of the best netminders the franchise has ever seen. He owned the crease last year, and his performances gave us a chance to win every night.

I think his return is a huge statement signing for our franchise. It’s no secret that other arena teams were keen to secure his signature, but he knows how much the organisation and fans value him. It’s a great deal for everyone, and Drew will be a huge part of everything we do next year.”
