STORM PICK UP POINT AGAINST PANTHERS AFTER PENALTY SHOTS

Storm gain point in cup qualification hunt Storm picked up what could be a vital point in the quest for Challenge Cup qualification after being edged out on penalty shots by the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday night.

After two goalless periods punctuated by Hayden Lavigne’s penalty shot save on Mike Hammond, Kevin Ekman-Larsson opened the scoring with a laser from the point at 41:46. Panthers levelled shortly after through Kelly Summers, and Stephen Anderson tapped in with just over seven minutes to go to put Nottingham in front.

Anthony DeLuca tied things up at 54:38 with a clinical finish to take the game into overtime. With no goals in the extra period, the game was decided on penalty shots. Stephen Johnson and Jesper Öhrvall found the net for Storm but Craig Puffer’s deke with the fifth Nottingham attempt was the decisive blow.
