
Saturday fight night at the Storm Shelter
Following a feisty Friday night at the Vindico Arena, Storm hosted visitors Cardiff Devils for the 2nd leg of double header Challenge Cup hockey.
Following a mid-ice turnover, Cardiff were first on the board with an early short-handed goal from Caponi early on.
Fisticuffs continued once again between Ulett and Helgesen, who dropped the gloves following a hit at the boards.
The remaining minutes were a flash of Friday night deja vu, with two fights at the Storm bench and numerous penalties handed out to both sides.
Storm tied the game on a powerplay through Ergang, assisted by Gilmour and Welsh in the 11th minute.
The second period was much cleaner, with some great saves made between DeRidder and Stoever as both teams attempted widen the scoreline.
The Devils went above the hosts when Olichefski got the final touch on the puck at the midway point of the game.
Storm killed off two penalties in the third, DeRidder making some crucial saves.
DeRidder left the net in favour it of an extra Storm skater with 2:18 left on the clock, then again in the final minute.
Despite strong plays with an extra man, the Devils claimed the two points in regular time, the final result 1-2.
