Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm take the trip to Belfast this Sunday 11th February for a 4:00 pm faceoff against second-placed Belfast Giants.
After last night’s 3-0 victory over Guildford, Manchester are now on a 5-game winning streak and find themselves third in the league table, just 3 points behind the Giants. Goals from Dallas Ehrhardt, Matt Beca, and Ciaran Long secured the points for the Storm, while Mike Clemente made a 21 save shutout in the Storm goal. This was the first time the Flames have been shutout all season. The Giants, who are 3 games into an 8 game league home stretch, had last night off after beating the Fife Flyers on Friday night 6-4. Two goals each from David Rutherford, Jonathan Ferland, and Steve Saviano overcame the challenge of the Flyers in a high scoring affair at the SSE Arena.
This is the final league meeting of the season between the sides, and Belfast have had the upper hand so far winning two. Storm won the first game 2-1 at Altrincham before a heavy 9-3 defeat in Belfast which was followed by a 6-4 Giants away victory. Mike Hammond has top scored for the Storm, with 3 goals and 2 assists, while Steve Saviano leads the Giants on 5 goals and 3 assists against the Storm, followed by Blair Riley and Darcy Murphy who have scored 2 and assisted on 4 each.
One to watch: Dustin Johner returned to the Giants lineup on Friday after missing almost 3 months due to injury. The experienced forward joined the Giants after a successful career in Austria and Sweden.
