StormCast Episode 7: Brady on the ball with play-off winner

Manchester Storm forward Brady Gilmour insists he knew how he was going to execute his eventual game-winning penalty shot that took the team to their first ever Elite League play-off finals weekend - but was grateful for the back-up.

Gilmour scored what proved to be the winner in the nerve-jangling shootout that took Storm to Nottingham when they saw off the Panthers in their quarter final tie that ultimately went the distance.

And while the 27-year-old was clear on his own plan, he was glad there was someone else who could step up if it went wrong.

“I watched a couple of guys before me so I knew what I wanted to do in that moment,” he said on the latest edition of StormCast, the official Manchester Storm podcast.

“It was kind of funny as I was zero for four in the shootout all season and tried a similar move twice, missing both of them previously.

“I committed to doing the move and thankfully it worked while Drew (DeRidder) did what he did all through that shootout.  It was thanks to him, I was able to shoot and luckily it went in.

“A lot of it was pure instinct.  I had the move I wanted to do and by the time I was getting close to the goalie, I was still able to do what I intended.  I committed to do it, although I wasn’t sure if I could get it past him.  I think I managed to sneak it in by his pad so it was fortunate it went in.

“There was definitely some pressure in that moment, knowing if I missed and they scored which we definitely didn’t want to happen.  But having Drew if I missed was certainly a comforting feeling.”

The Canadian centreman is back for his second season with the club and he was more than happy to sign on to extend his stay.

“I loved my time in Manchester last year,” he added. “I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone - from the fans to management and the city - it was all awesome.

“The most exciting part for next year is the new arena and I’m pumped to get in there. I’m also looking forward to working with the new boys coming in.

“We had a really good group last year and the leaders did a really great job of making everyone feel involved plus the fans were really passionate too.  They really had our backs and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Storm right now.”
