StormCast Episode 17: Busby happy to learn the Dallas way

Manchester Storm defenceman Dennis Busby says he learned a lot during his maiden season with the club and picked out one person in particular who helped him.

Dennis is back for his second season and raring to go as the days count down to the brand new campaign where the mood is bristling with anticipation.

But he viewed it as a big learning experience as he cemented his place in the blue line, contributing to what was a good year under head coach Cameron Critchlow.

Last year was definitely a big year for me learning wise,

he said on the latest episode of StormCast.

Dallas (Ehrhardt) is tremendous to work with and I feel like I learned more through the season through him.

I got to really understand how wise and how awesome he is.  The coach was also great in teaching other hockey things along with Mikey Mo (Mike Morin) so I’m excited to bring that in for next season and add it into my second year.

With Dallas, having him alongside me on the ice sometimes as a coach wasn’t something I had ever dealt with before as he played a few games here and there.

So, getting to see him up close in games really made appreciate how good he is and that he knows what he’s talking about.  It was good to see it live and in action and gave me more respect for him.

As well as what he learned on the ice, Dennis admits he’s coming into this season with a better understanding of how things generally work in the Motorpoint Elite League.

But he sees it as an opportunity to build from a successful first year as he enters the new campaign with more clarity on what to expect.

He added:

Getting to the play-off weekend was huge for us and was a great experience for us to get.  I know it didn’t go great for us once we got to Nottingham, but it was a huge step for the returning guys and for the organisation.

All the coaching staff all made life easy for us and the guys all really like each other, which went a long way to what we achieved.

I feel like I’m coming in with a better understanding of what to expect this year.  I feel like I know the league a bit better. For example, I didn’t really know what the Challenge Cup was all about when I first came over.

But I have better knowledge of what to expect and with the new rink, everyone is just really excited for the new season.
