Manchester Storm Fall Short as Glasgow Clan Seal 4–2 Victory

With the Storm guaranteeing a playoff quarter final spot last night in Nottingham, spirits were high as the Shelter welcomed the Glasgow Clan.

The opening stages of the game passed with no real incident as both teams worked through the gears. It was Schwartz for the Clan who eventually broke the deadlock in the tenth minute – the Canadian forward accurately placing the puck in the top corner just out of reach of DeRidder’s blocker. With shots on net near enough identical the scoreboard remained in favour of the visitors heading in to the first intermission.

The Clan doubled their lead six minutes in to the period as a long pass from McKay that split the defence let Risk skate through and despatch a strong wrist shot. Moments later Storm cut the deficit when Jenion put himself in front of the net and redirected a shot from Cutler that beat Souliere down low. A powerplay goal for the Clan made it 3-1 at the midpoint, Neumann latching on to a rebounded shot from the blue line that left no chance of DeRidder making the stop.

Storm killed a long five minute penalty that carried over from the end of the middle period – a debatable boarding call that resulted in seven minutes called against Caines. Momentum visibly shifted in the later stages of the game with the Storm fighting for a way back in to the contest. The hard work was rewarded when Caines tipped in a long range shot from Clavelle to make it a one goal game. As the clock ticked down DeRidder was pulled from his net in a last-ditch effort to find the equalising goal with less than two minutes remaining. A lapse in concentration however left Neilson an easy shot in to the empty net, securing the Clan a 4-2 road win.
