Jenion joy over GB call-up
Manchester Storm defensemen Brad Jenion admits it was in his mind when he returned to the UK that he could make the GB squad.
Jenion has made the cut for May’s World Championship team, where the team will head to Zurich for dates with USA, Finland and hosts Switzerland.
And he couldn’t be any prouder as he gets an opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best talent in the world.
“It’s an honour to be called up to play for your country, so I’m extremely excited to get the chance to be part of this experience,” he said.
“It’s a proud moment to get selected. My family has put a lot of time and effort into my career, so it’s a big thank you to them for the commitment they have shown throughout my time playing.
“I definitely had it in my head coming back to England that if I could get better every day and do the right things I could give myself a chance to be selected. It provided a bit of extra day to day motivation for me.”
Jenion has been capped at U18 and U20 level in the past, winning bronze medals at both age groups.
But the forthcoming championships will allow him to test himself at another level and he’s already leaning into someone in the Storm ranks with a similar experience.
“This is a opportunity that I’m looking forward to and one I’ll be learning from every day,” he added.
“It’s the top level you can achieve as a Brit so it’s something that I’ve been building towards.
Dallas has played at that level, and he’s been someone I have looked up to all year, being a veteran in the league as well as the national team.
It’s been great to have him around to learn from in both a coaching role as well as getting to play with him so he’s someone who knows all about what’s to come.”
