Haden joy at another Fife-busting display
Manchester Storm forward Gary Haden admits he does enjoy coming up against Fife Flyers but was pleased by the fight shown to claim victory from the jaws of defeat.
The 26-year-old came up with four points, including the winning penalty shot in Kirkcaldy on Sunday to turn a game that looked dead at 4-2 down with a minute to go in regulation time into a shootout win.
It takes him to 39 points (20 goals and 19 assists) in 22 career appearances against the Flyers, but Haden admits turning things round as late as they did perhaps wasn’t ideal.
“Obviously we don’t want to leave it until a minute remaining to score two quick ones, but it showed that we are never out of the fight no matter what,” he said.
“For me, personally, It felt great to help the team win in a crazy fashion. Whenever a game goes to a shootout you never know what can happen.
“I do enjoy playing them from my time in Glasgow as well playing if Fife always is a fun one with the atmosphere and I feel like whenever I play there it’s an entertaining game.”
Attention now turns to Saturday’s game against Cardiff Devils where the Storm have a chance to build on the decent form over Christmas and New Year that has seen them solidify a top five place as things stands.
And Haden believes a good start against Paul Thompson’s side could be the key to victory when they meet.
He added: “I think our record over the break really proves to us that we can beat anyone in the league when we play our game and stick to our systems.
“It’s a great confidence boost and we need to carry that for the rest of the season.
“Looking ahead, we know Cardiff are a good team and a physical one, so we need to have a great start and go from there.
“If we stick to our game, I like our chances of getting two points.”
