Dudek Delivers as Storm Clip Devils 2–1 in Tight Shelter Battle

The second placed Cardiff Devils were the visitors on a chilly Saturday night at the Shelter.

It took until the thirteenth minute for the lamp to be lit after both goalies had faced multiple shots at both ends. And it was the away side who got the goal after MacDonald was fed a pass from Sandford with the goal scorer driving to the net and beating DeRidder down low. Despite twenty-seven shots on net a fairly even period ended with Cardiff up by one.

Period two was much of the same in terms of chances created, with both sides facing strong netminder performances. The Storm did however find an equaliser at the midpoint. With the puck behind the goal line Cutler made a nice pass which found Gilmour in front who managed to get a strong shot off which beat Bowns comfortably. All was to play for in the final third of a close encounter.

Storm had a good chance to take the lead at the midpoint of the period as the Devils ran in to penalty trouble, leaving themselves shorthanded for a long while. Their penalty kill held strong until there was just seven seconds remaining on the final penalty – J.D. Dudek skilfully manoeuvring the puck past a sprawling Bowns to gain a one goal advantage. Despite a late powerplay and an extra forward the Devils failed to find an equaliser meaning the Storm gained a huge two points with a 2-1 scoreline.
