Critchlow: We don’t need motivation for Nottingham weekend

Manchester Storm head coach Cameron Critchlow says he won’t need to motivate the players for this weekend’s play-off weekend.

After Sunday’s dramatic penalty shots win over Nottingham Panthers, all attention is now on the final four weekend – Storm’s first appearance in the Elite League’s showpiece event.

And he’s not fazed by upcoming semi-final opponents, Sheffield Steelers, who are no strangers to appearing in the end of season weekend.

“I seriously doubt I’ll have to motivate the players for this one,” he said. “We are confident and know what needs to be done in order to win.

“Sheffield may have more experience with this weekend, but we will focus on using our momentum so help propel us into the league final on Sunday.

“We accomplished our goal of making the final four weekend, so now it’s time to shift our mindset and refocus for the upcoming weekend.”

Critch also reflected on Sunday’s success as they knocked out holders Panthers to earn a return to the Motorpoint Arena.

Even when it came down to penalty shots, he knew he had the right man who would give them every chance of success.

He added: “It’s a great feeling. It’s not an easy feat but we did so many small things well this past weekend. We bought in and sacrificed a lot for the greater good.

“I knew with Drew (DeRidder) in net we had a great chance to win in that format. I was hoping we could get him some support and allow him to shut the door for us.

“It worked out really well and now we’re looking ahead to this huge weekend.”
