Critch keen to get some distance from chasing pack

Manchester Storm head coach Cameron Critchlow says he’s keen to create some daylight between his team and some of their closest rivals in the standings.

Storm are fifth place with ten games to go and next up is one of the teams looking to catch them, Coventry Blaze, who visit the Storm Shelter tonight.

But he’s fully aware that any slip could be costly in the run-in as the teams all jostle for position in the standings.

“The next five games are all against team trying to catch us,” he said.

“Right now, the goal is to take care of what’s in front of us one game at a time and let’s keep creating a gap between us and them.

Coventry have had an outstanding season and have earned the right to play in the Challenge Cup Final.

Any time you drop points in league play the standings seem to change so I’m sure they’re fully aware of what’s at stake this weekend.”

Critchlow also took a quick pause to reflect on what has been quite the season so far, insisting he’s loved the challenge of leading the team from the bench in his first campaign.

But he is also hoping from more energy by the fans as they look to ride a wave of momentum going into play-offs and has issued a challenge for the quarter final when it comes.

He added:

“Every season, whether you’re a player or coach, seems to happen fast.  I’m certainly always reflecting on our team and performances.

It’s not the easiest shut off away from the rink but that’s why I’ve loved the role.

But the crowd have played their part this year and the guys are absolutely feeding off the energy.

We owe so much to the fans for their unwavering support this season.  They are a huge reason why our home record has been strong.

For play-offs next month I hope they blow the roof off this place.”
