Coach Critch keen to make Steelers struggle at the Shelter

Manchester Storm head coach Cameron Critchlow has paid tribute to the fans for the role they’ve played in the team’s excellent home form – now he wants to make it difficult for the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday.

Loren Ulett’s overtime winner over Belfast Giants on Sunday made it six wins out of seven at home, giving Storm the third best record on home ice as it stands.

And Critchlow is keen to see more of the same as this latest meeting against the Steelers heads towards another sell out.

“The fans have been such a big part of our home record being as good as it is,” he said. “In recent weeks you can barely hear yourself think in there which has been great for us.

“They make a lot of noise and really get behind the team, so we appreciate every ounce of support they give us.

“With Steelers coming to town, we expect to make it a very uncomfortable place for them to come into this Saturday.”

Storm bounced back in style from the 5-2 loss in Sheffield on Saturday past to edge past the Giants in overtime in what turned out to be an excellent Pride night for the team.

And Critchlow said there was no time to feel sorry for themselves after the first game as he described his own emotions as Ulett’s effort found the net.

He added:

“We knew there was no time to hang our heads after Saturday’s game.  All you can do is to move on and get ready for your next game.

“It was a pretty good feeling when Loren fired it top glove.  We were happy to get that win and seeing the players interacting with the fans while celebrating was great.

“It was also great to see Loren get rewarded (with that goal). He’s been working very hard in recent weeks, and it was a great moment for him.”
