STORMCAST EPISODE 3 | Dow set for new horizons with Storm

New Manchester Storm defenceman Drydn Dow says the move from Dundee Stars made perfect sense to him after making the switch from the Scottish side.

The 33-year-old was announced in May as leaving the Stars after seven seasons to begin a new chapter of his career in Manchester.

And he gave an insight into his decision and why coming to Manchester was such an attraction to him, speaking on the latest edition of StormCast.

“I have a lot of gratitude for Dundee as they were the team I was able to turn pro with.  They done a lot for me,” he said. “Those seven years were a great experience for me and working with different coaches allowed me to learn from them.

“As for leaving Dundee, It was just time for me.  It was nothing to do with the organisation.  It felt like the timing was right to make the switch and after a bunch of good conversations with Ryan (Finnerty) after the season ended, he told me the way the team was going.

“Manchester had a phenomenal season which helps in making it more appealing to go. It’s on an upward trend.  With that and everything else, it made perfect sense and I was excited about the opportunity to come.

“I played there for seven years so I’m intrigued at what they’ll do under the new ownership and the new coach.  I wish them well, but not against us obviously and as long as we’re doing better.”

Dow looked back on previous battles against the Storm during his time with Dundee, where he scored seven goals and made 23 assists for 30 points in 42 games against Manchester.

He also revealed which Storm opponents he liked to come up against as he looks ahead to being cheered by the fans who would previously give him a hard time.

He added:

“It’s going to sound cliché, but I always enjoyed coming up against Cam Critchlow whenever we played Manchester.  He played a game I really respected.  He was a hard-nosed player and did everything the right way.

“I’m really excited to get the chance to work with him and learn a bit more.  I used to enjoy coming up against Stephen Johnson as well, a player whose game I respect too.

“I always liked the skilled players, but I really respected the players who did the gritty stuff too and playing in the Storm Shelter was always quite the experience whenever we travelled.

“The fans always made the atmosphere quite exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing them at the AO Arena when we go there.”
