Manchester Storm Bolster Attack as Anton Karlsson Signs for Storm

Manchester Storm are pleased to announce the signing of Swedish forward Anton Karlsson, most recently of Fife Flyers.

Karlsson is a former 3rd round NHL draft pick of Phoenix Coyotes and product of the famous Frölunda junior system. He would go onto represent his nation of Sweden at multiple junior levels from 2012-2016.

During this time, Karlsson made his professional debut with Mora IK in Allsvenskan before continuing onto make his SHL the following campaign. In total, Karlsson made 233 appearances in the Allsvenskan and 40 in the SHL, winning two promotions with Leksand to the SHL.

The 29-year-old has also featured in several of Europe’s other top leagues representing Villacher SV across 86 games and amassing 62 points (33G 29A) whilst in the EBEL/ICEHL leagues.

The import forward would move to the Norweigan powerhouse of Storhamar for 2022-23 season where he picked up a play-off silver medal and 22 points (8G 14A) in 37 matches. Following this, Karlsson took his talents to Czechia and Denmark. The latter resulted in more silverware for the Swede as Sønderjyske took the Danish title for whom he represented on 19 occasions.

A return to both Norway and Sweden then followed for Karlsson before he made an instant impact with Fife Flyers last year. In just 24 EIHL games, the talented forward racked up 27 points (8G 19A) for a struggling Scottish outfit.

Speaking after agreeing terms with the Storm, Karlsson said:

“I’m really excited to join Manchester and meet all the teammates, coaches, fans and everyone involved with the club.

Having the opportunity to be part of such a great city and play in an outstanding arena makes this move even more special. I’m looking forward to getting started and will do my best to help the team/club achieve new success.

Come on, Storm!”

Storm Head Coach Cameron Critchlow welcomed the addition of the experienced forward:

“Anton brings a strong combination of skill, experience and character to our line-up. He has played at a high level throughout his career, competes hard every night and will add an important presence at both ends of the ice.

He made a big difference for Fife last year and we are delighted to be able to add him into our settled group of players. I have a feeling he is quickly going to become a Storm fan favourite.”
