Introducing Storm in the Community: Manchester Storm’s Commitment Beyond the Ice

Storm in the Community is Manchester Storm’s official Community Interest Company (CIC), dedicated to creating opportunities, inspiring people and making a lasting difference across Greater Manchester through the power of sport.

Working alongside schools, charities, healthcare providers, community groups and local businesses, Storm in the Community delivers inclusive, accessible and sustainable programmes that improve health and wellbeing, support education, promote inclusion and strengthen communities.

Sport has the power to unite communities, inspire confidence, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. Recognising the positive role Manchester Storm can play within the community, Storm in the Community has been established  to turn that opportunity into practical action. Through collaborative programmes, partnerships and community initiatives, the CIC will create lasting opportunities, strengthen communities and improve lives across Greater Manchester.

Our priorities include:

  • Promoting physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Increasing participation in sport and physical activity.
  • Supporting young people through school and community programmes.
  • Tackling loneliness, social isolation and health inequalities.
  • Creating inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
  • Building stronger communities through meaningful partnerships.

Jo Nicholson, Director of Community at Storm in the Community, said:

“Being part of Storm in the Community is about so much more than sport. It’s about creating opportunities, building hope and bringing people together. I truly believe that every child, every family and every community deserves the chance to thrive. By working alongside schools, charities, businesses and local organisations, we can make a real and lasting difference across Greater Manchester. This isn’t just a project—it’s a vision to leave our communities stronger than we found them, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of that journey.”

This September, as Manchester Storm returns to the AO Arena, the club will launch its Community Zone in Block 102, a dedicated space that brings together schools, charities, community organisations and businesses to celebrate inclusion and showcase the impact that strong community partnerships can achieve.

The Community Zone will also provide local businesses with the opportunity to gift unforgettable gameday experiences to children, families and individuals facing hardship, social isolation or other challenges across Greater Manchester.

Businesses can further support Storm in the Community through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships, helping to fund school programmes, wellbeing initiatives, community outreach projects and inclusive sporting opportunities throughout the region.

This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to work alongside organisations, businesses and supporters who share our vision of creating positive, lasting change.

Together, we are Storm in the Community.
