Critchlow to Return for 2026/27 After Standout First Season Behind the Bench

Manchester Storm are thrilled to confirm the contract extension of Head Coach Cameron Critchlow ahead of the 2026–27 EIHL campaign.

In his first year behind the bench, Critchlow led the team to a 26–19–9 league record, securing 6th place in the standings. Furthermore, the rookie Head Coach guided the franchise to its first Play-Off weekend after defeating the hosts, the Nottingham Panthers, over two legs—a feat that established him as a legitimate candidate for EIHL Coach of the Year.

Critchlow’s leadership qualities and long-standing association with the club made it an easy decision for the ownership group to offer him an extension for at least a further year.

Now entering his eighth year with the club, Critchlow, alongside Ryan Finnerty, has already begun work on off-season recruitment and contract extensions. The astute recruitment of the previous campaign, combined with effective game plans, resulted in a franchise-low 154 goals conceded. This defensive solidity proved a key factor in the club’s success, with a more balanced blue line representing a notable shift in style.

Critchlow had the following to say on his return:

“I’m really excited to be back and build on my first season behind the bench for the storm, we have a lot of key pieces returning and we will be looking to exceed our current success”

General Manager Ryan Finnerty commented on his working relationship with Cameron Critchlow and his satisfaction at securing his services for another year:

“I spoke last year about the value of a player transitioning into coaching within this league, and I believe Critch’s first year is a true testament to that. The unique nature of the league makes prior experience incredibly important, and everyone was delighted with the outcome last season.

Our dialogue is always open and honest, which I believe benefits the entire franchise. Together, we built a very strong season, and we’re pushing to go even higher in 26/27. With Critch at the helm, I’m confident we’ll get there.”
