Loren’s change leads to rewards

Manchester Storm forward Loren Ulett has revealed a change in his game is reaping rewards for him in front of goal.

The experienced Canadian has five goals in his last five outings as he enjoys a hot streak during this run of games.

And he explained what he’s done differently to yield a degree of personal success as Storm look to nail down a play-off place as he told of the importance of getting that home win against Glasgow Clan last week.

“I think I had been playing well but I was frustrated with the dip in production from the start of the season,”

he said.

“I changed my mindset a little bit and tried to play a little bit freer, with less thoughts about needing points and more on just see what happens when I work hard while enjoying myself.

That seems to be rewarding me lately. Having the success recently builds confidence in your game and in the eyes of your teammates which helps to create more opportunities. I just hope I can keep it going.

It was really important for us as a group to get that one over the line and I think it helps to remind us that we are a dangerous team, but we need to keep our standard high.

I don’t think we were playing poorly but certainly not our best for full games. The win was a good reminder of how winning takes a complete effort in a league that is as tight as this.”

With 16 games remaining, the push is on to secure that spot in the top eight and Ulett is more than aware of what’s needed in the final few weeks.

But, as he looked ahead to Saturday’s home clash with Nottingham Panthers, he knows Storm must do a lot of things right on the night to achieve the victory.

“Every game and point in this league is important,”

he added.

“Teams at this time in the season are trying to continue whatever momentum they have built from day one and continue to ratchet up heading into playoffs.

We are no different. We want to keep building our advantages and clean up some areas of our game so we can hit the playoffs rolling.

We’re up against a really skilled team in Nottingham on Saturday and if your details are lacking, they will take advantage of those opportunities.

Playing them doesn’t really change our game plan though, we have to continue to limit teams grade A chances, be tactically sound, and win our battles.

When we do those things, we create offence from our transition and put ourselves in a position to win games. something we hope to do on Saturday.”
