Critchlow happy to see Storm play long game

Manchester Storm coach Cameron Critchlow insists his team are comfortable in overtime and shootout situations.

Storm went the distance and beyond again in both games against Glasgow Clan last week, making it seven games of their last eight where the team have gone beyond regulation time.

And Critch says it’s been useful in helping the players believe in each other that they won’t give up.

“It’s certainly a position we’re comfortable being in after all these overtime games,” he said. “The guys should have confidence and belief in one another that they won’t quit and will work until the very end for one another.

It happened again on Saturday, where the quality of the ice was in question for the shootout, but that’s something we practice on every day.

I liked the way we played and I felt that quality gave us a good chance to win. I’m sure anyone who watched the game would agree.”

Next up for Storm is Nottingham Panthers, who come into the weekend on the back of a 3-0 Challenge Cup Semi Final first leg win over Sheffield Steelers.

They’re a team who still harbour title ambitions and while there’s still plenty of hockey to be played, Critchlow would love to test their credentials as he paid tribute to the fans, who are about to help sell out the Storm Shelter once again this weekend.

He added:

“We’ve still to see Nottingham four more times this season. This is a big game for both teams and we want to make sure we put some doubt in their minds at least.

The support has been tremendous, and we certainly thank our fans for their backing. I think results have helped get people in the building and there is some good hockey being played this season in the Shelter.”
