Critchlow eyeing up Cardiff to kick off festive fun

Manchester Storm coach Cameron Critchlow says his team will need to beat Cardiff Devils at their own game if they are to take the points into the festive season.

Storm’s only game of the weekend takes place on Sunday when Paul Thompson’s side visit the Storm Shelter before things really ramp up with four games to come before the turn of the year.

And Critch has been happy with the progression of the team and is looking forward to the run of games coming up.

“Cardiff is a good team who like to play fast and physical,” he said. “There have been some good games between the two so far this season and we will need to beat them at their own game on Sunday.

“It’s getting to the best time of the year for the players where you’re into a true pro schedule with multiple games a week.  It’s also a good time to get hot and rattle off some wins.

Overall, I’m happy with how our team has progressed this season. They’ve been a great group to work with and have helped me settle into the role.

“But the message remains the same for the coach as the players. Get ready to do the work and get better every day.”

Critch also offered an analysis on last weekend’s two games, which saw a shutout loss to Nottingham Panthers on Saturday before dragging out a penalty shootout win at Coventry Blaze.

He added: “I actually liked our game at home against Nottingham, but unfortunately their goaltending was sharp and couldn’t find a way to beat Grande.

On Sunday, I didn’t like our first period in Coventry, but we got better as the game progressed and found a way to win which was a good way to end the weekend.”
