SWEET SIX HUNDRED FOR SULLY

Storm defenceman Zach Sullivan is hoping to make his 600th appearance in all Elite League competitions a memorable one with two points against Nottingham Panthers on Saturday.

The experienced blue liner will become the 25th skater to hit that particular milestone if he hits the ice at the Motorpoint Arena in the Challenge Cup tie.

And Sully says he’s grateful for every game and opportunity he’s been given along the way, but also wants to bounce back from last week’s losses to Cardiff Devils.

“There was a point where I didn’t think I’d play even one professional game so I’ve learned not to take our sport for granted,” Sully admitted.

“I try and enjoy every moment, so hopefully we can pick up a massive two points in the Challenge Cup and make it a memorable day.

“As athletes we know that we will have good days and bad days, and the best and most successful teams are the ones that find a way to bounce back quickly.

“We’ve been playing some really good hockey.  This week, we’ve been tidying some things up with Critch. Now it’s about showing ourselves and the league just how good we can be.”

Storm start the home league campaign with a visit by Fife Flyers on Sunday (face off 5:30pm) and it’s a chance to get some regular season points on the board.

Sully acknowledged the test ahead and wants to see the team go for it from the off to get that first league win.

He added: “It’s obviously important to get points on the board early, especially after falling just short in Glasgow in our first league game.

“It will be a big character test for us as a group and Fife have picked up some great results already this season plus everyone in the league knows how good Shane Owen is.

“We’re at home, the Storm Shelter will be loud and proud as it always is, and it’s down to us to implement Critch’s game plan, play hard and heavy and really put the pressure on from the first puck drop in both games this weekend.”
